If you have the skills and the appetite for enhancing your career in the UK, you will be as interested as us in the latest UK ‘Report on Jobs’ from the IHS Markit and the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), released on Friday. In summary their report highlighted that:
- Contracting roles in the UK have seen a dramatic rise over the last month.
- There has been a strong decline in suitable candidate availability, to a historically marked pace. Employment in the UK is at its highest level since records began in 1971, which means there are less people available to fill these essential roles (and which is you guys come in!)
- The top spot in the skillset demand league table went to Accounting/Finance, closely followed by IT & Computing.
- The strong demand for skilled staff and a further drop in candidate availability has resulted in driving up high pay rates during September as employers are doing their absolute utmost to attract candidates.
The IHS Markit/REC Report on Jobs provides the most comprehensive guide to the UK labour market, drawing on original survey data provided by recruitment consultancies.
Kevin Green, REC Chief Executive says:
“Recruiters are finding it even harder to find people to fill vacancies. Candidate availability has been falling for the past four years and the record high UK employment rate plus a slowdown in the number of EU nationals coming to work here is exacerbating the situation, potentially leaving roles unfilled.”
