Do the prep now to take 2016 by the reigns

You don’t have to wait until 2016 to begin your preparations for your move to live, work and play in the UK. In fact, you’re far better off at least starting to put together a list and timeline of those things needed so you can hit the new year running, and be miles ahead of the rest.

So, what do we mean by ‘timeline’ and what things should be on it? First of all, you can do yourself the biggest favour by registering with myOE as soon as you’ve started considering the move. After that’s done, we have a basic list here that can help get your thought processes ticking so you can get started:

16 weeks out – This far out is only really relevant for anyone planning on working in the allied health industry in the UK. So if you’re a physiotherapist, podiatrist or another specialist in allied health from Australia or New Zealand, you must be fully HCPC registered and compliant prior to commencing work in the UK. The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) sets the regulatory standard for health professionals in the UK. The process of registration can take up to 16 weeks so it’s important to ensure you’ve applied and submitted your registration by this point prior to the big move.
12 weeks out – This is the time to get your Visas and permits sorted. You don’t want to leave this one until last minute, as you’ll need your Visa for when you step off the plane in the UK.
6 weeks out – If it’s a condition of your entry Visa that you have an entry clearance from the British High Commission in your local country before you can travel to the UK, you should apply for this with at least six weeks to go. This ensures that if there are any delays in processing, you’re still safe.
1 week out – Have you confirmed your meeting in the UK with your myOE Account Manager yet? This is a good time to ensure you know what you’re doing in the first few days after you land. It’s also helpful to have lined up meetings with UK recruitment agencies by this time as well, helping you to get a head start on the job hunt.

These are just the basics that are important to remember. For a more comprehensive list, check out our myOE Relocation Guide. If you prepare a list and general timeline that’s personal to you prior to year’s end, you stand a much better chance of feeling empowered and enabled to get going with it when January rolls around.
