OE Description: My OE is all about unleashing the inner Benthamite; that is, guys and gals, it's all about partaking in as many hedonistic delights as possible! Seriously though, on another more obscure and less self-obsessed level, an OE should be about expanding your horizons. There's nothing I enjoy more than pushing the boundaries of my comfort square (and sometimes others' too). I live by the dictum, "you'll never know until you try".

Interests: I'm interested in seeing and doing everything! But seeing as there's no way I can see everything, it's time to prioritise. If you put a gun to my head and said, "3 seconds or less, tell me what you want to do in the UK", I'd probably blubber for about 2 seconds before telling you that Trafalgar square and Westminster Hall are high on the list, but I also want to get off the beaten track. This means going as far North as possible—hopefully Loch Ness, but with any luck I may even get further.
Occupation: Student
Home Town: Sydney
Home Country: Australia
I've Visited: Western Mexico, Thailand, Singapore, all over the US of A, Eastern Canada, New Zealand, Tasmania (oh, wait that's part of this country...hahah...woops!), Indonesia.
I'm Going To: Switzerland and France (I've got to put my schoolboy French to some use, haven't I?), Ukraine and Russia, Denmark (where my family comes from)....wait, shouldn't I really be asking which countries I don't want to visit...that would be a much shorter list
Fav Place: Backcountry of New Zealand's south island—stunningly beautiful
Travel Tips: 1) Never plan ahead more than half a day. You'll have a lot more fun trying to figure things out from scratch, while on the run if you allow yourself time to just "go with the flow". 2) Travel by yourself whenever possible. You will meet more people. If you ever find yourself lonely, think about who would win in a ninja fight, Chuck Norris or Steven Seagall. 3) Pack light. I'll say that again. PACK LIGHT!! The infinitive verb form, " to lug", derives from the word "luggage". Are we making connections yet? 4) Do not contact friends/family except at beginning and end of trip. Different time zones, call charges, slow internet — all of this takes time, effort, and money that should actually be spent enjoying your new surrounds. Parents, take a chill pill. If anything does go awry, the friendly people at DFAT will give you a call. 5) And finally, if any new experience comes your way, make sure you take it. The only thing anyone ever ends up regretting is living a life of regret. Life is really far too short to worry about "consequences", bahhh.
Most Outrageous Travel Experience: A Colorado winter in the Rockies is not something that you wish to experience inside doors. While working on the ski fields, a friend and I decided that we would climb several peaks unassisted. Seeing as that year had seen the most back country deaths on record however, and they'd had the biggest snowfall in 27 years, halfway through the season, it's safe to say that we failed to recognise the enormity of the task set before us. It took us 3 hours to trek to the base of the mountain. It took us 5 hours to trek up the mountain, all the while fearing for avalanches (we had no avalanche equipment). The skiing was beautiful but we got separated on the way down. It got dark. It got cold. I got back. My friend did not. We were on the verge of calling the police before he stumbled in looking like Frosty the Snowman. Safe to say, lesson learned.
